We promote critical engagement with technology and science while drawing on the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences.

Our students can choose to pursue wide-ranging programs in Integrated Digital Media, Sustainable Urban Environments, or Science and Technology Studies — a flexible path that encourages them to combine their love of science with an understanding of its impacts on society, an ability to write about it clearly, and devotion to applying it ethically. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the possibilities of augmented and virtual reality, work at the intersection of engineering and art, or become conversant with both the technical and social issues facing our world, Technology, Culture and Society might be the course of study for you.

The TCS Department also manages Tandon's General Education Requirements.

The TCS Department would like to honor the 2019-2020 Writing Awards Winners.

Programs

Integrated Digital Media, B.S.

Our Bachelor of Science Integrated Digital Media (IDM) program centers around the IDM core, a suite of courses that focus on the four areas of Image, Sound, Narrative, and Interactivity.

Science and Technology Studies, B.S.

How has the decision to patent human genes affected intellectual property law, privacy issues, and therapeutic research in medicine? How did an international community transform a military research project into the internet we use today?

Sustainable Urban Environments, B.S.

Half of the world’s population today lives in cities — a number predicted to increase rapidly. With decreasing natural resources, sustainable urban growth is an increasingly important area of study and action.

Integrated Digital Media, M.S.

The Integrated Digital Media (IDM) Program fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies.
