Brooklyn EXPO 2026: SynthAccess Accessibility Tools
The SynthAccess team, including Professor Luke DuBois, demonstrated accessibility tools that make electronic synthesizers easier for blind and visually impaired musicians to operate. The system converts instrument controls, settings and preset names into spoken feedback, while tactile and Braille overlays help users identify physical controls and connections. The team also demonstrated a prototype that uses vibrations to communicate changes in sound parameters through touch. Its open-source mapping files can be adapted to different instruments.
