Eligibility, Application, and Selection


Eligibility Requirements

The Tandon Global Leaders program is an invite-only admissions process. Selected first-year individuals with a 3.5 GPA and above will be invited to apply.

  • Students who were not referred to the program and invited to apply are not eligible.
  • Transfer students are not eligible.
  • No applications for appeals can be submitted.

Application Process

  • An invitation will be sent to eligible students in mid-January. 

  • Application deadline: March 1, 2020, at 11:59 pm

  • Interested applicants must submit the following items as part of the application:

    • Faculty recommendation letter
    • Resume
    • Personal Statement: Explain your reasons and goals for participating in the TGL program. Describe specific prior relevant experiences and/or desired personal and career/professional goals. Answer “what does being a “global leader” mean to you? How would being a part of TGL prepare you for the multicultural, multidisciplinary, entrepreneurial, and socially-conscious global engagement needed for 21st-century engineering? 
    • Essay on Technology for Global Challenges: Write about a particular Global Challenge that you are interested in, and how you see technology, innovation, engineering, and entrepreneurship helping to address that challenge.
    • Review the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges for Engineering and the United Nations Education for Sustainable Development Goals reports to help you identify a global challenge that you are passionate about
    • Optional e-portfolio of prior relevant work

Selection Process

A small group of applicants will be invited for interviews with program leadership, after which finalists will be offered admission to the program.
