Global Challenge: Nanoengineering for Health
Bio:
Zaq is a junior at NYU Tandon, pursuing a B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Born and raised in Metro Manila, Philippines, and now based in Brantford, Canada, he brings a multicultural perspective to his academic journey in New York. In Spring 2025, he broadened this global outlook through a semester at NYU Abu Dhabi, deepening his interest in the intersections of science, culture, and innovation.
As a research assistant in the Pinkerton Research Group, Zaq’s work centers on polymer nanoparticles as platforms for drug delivery and biomedical applications. His research spans the synthesis, characterization, and in vitro evaluation of nanocarriers designed to advance targeted pain therapeutics. Beyond the lab, he serves as Vice President of NYU’s American Institute of Chemical Engineers chapter and mentors aspiring Filipino international students through CAUSE Philippines.
Looking ahead, Zaq is pursuing a research-driven career that integrates the life and physical sciences with the goal of translating nanomaterials into practical healthcare solutions. Outside of engineering, he is an avid photographer, traveler, and reader, sharing the stories and experiences he captures with the world.
