FRE-Sponsored Conference Attendance
In addition to the NYU Tandon conference fund, the FRE Department will also sponsor students on a first-come, first-served basis for conferences taking place in NYC, subject to budget availability. The department will review the details of the conference to determine whether it aligns with the MSFE program curriculum, and will subsequently notify all students about conferences that the department can sponsor. The sponsorship amount will be based on the cost of the conference registration fee.
Sponsorship for students presenting at a conference will be subject to additional review by the FRE Faculty to determine if the material being presented is related to the field of Financial Engineering and must demonstrate high-quality master's level work.
Students who have already received funding for a conference in the past are not eligible for this opportunity. This ensures that the department can support the widest possible range of students.
NYU Tandon Conference Fund
In addition to the FRE-Sponsored Conference Attendance, all currently matriculated NYU Tandon students in good academic and disciplinary standing are eligible to request funding to attend a national or regional conference once per academic year directly from NYU Tandon. Students are welcome to apply for funding to attend any conference that they believe will contribute to their personal and professional development.
If you would like to be considered for funding, please submit an application a minimum of 30 days in advance of the early registration deadline for your proposed conference. For further details about the application process, eligibility details, and expectations of funding awardees please see this Conference Funding FAQs document.

Cross-Registration
Cross-Registration for the Spring 2026 semester will open on December 17, 2025
Graduate students enrolled in other NYU graduate programs may enroll in FRE courses. Undergraduate students are not allowed to take courses in the MS in Financial Engineering program, except for those in a combined BS/MS program.
It is the student's responsibility to consult with their academic advisor if the courses they plan to take satisfy the degree requirements in their program. Please note that to enroll in an FRE-GY course, you must have knowledge of, or at least equivalent to, the content in the following NYU Tandon courses: MA-UY 2034, MA-UY 2114, MA-UY 2224, and CS-UY 1114.
Please review the NYU Cross-School Registration Policy before enrolling.
You can enroll in all FRE courses directly in Albert beginning on July 29, 2025.
Transfer Admissions
The Finance and Risk Engineering Department does not accept transfer students from any programs within the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, New York University as a whole, or from any outside schools. If you would like to enroll into the program, please submit an application as per the guidelines outlined in “The Fundamentals of Admission” video.
FRE Bulls & Bears Club
Will resume in Fall 2025.
The Finance and Risk Engineering Club, “Bulls & Bears”, was founded to spark community engagement and create a tighter-knit cohort within NYU’s FRE program. The club strives to supplement the theoretical FRE Coursework with the soft skills and financial intuition necessary to thrive in the world of Finance. In this process, the club will enable students to enhance their personal and professional networks.
