Global Challenge: Healthcare inequality
Reid Sherman is a mechanical engineering major interested in biomedical engineering and medical technologies. He chose to study mechanical engineering because of the major’s flexibility and widespread use across many fields, including biomedical engineering. He is originally from Orange County, California. His deep commitment to equality fuels his passion for medical and assistive technologies. Outside of school he enjoys playing hockey, reading, and thrifting.
After graduation, Reid plans to pursue biomedical engineering either in industry or through an advanced degree. Throughout the course of his career, Reid wants to reduce healthcare inequality through the creation of more accessible and efficient medical technology solutions. He hopes to lead cutting-edge research to improve the lives of everyday people.
Reid wanted to join the GLASS program to find like-minded people that seek to solve our world’s biggest problems. He looks forward to studying in London and broadening his perspective personally, academically, and professionally. Through this global lens he hopes to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goal of reduced inequality through accessible and affordable biomedical technologies. This issue resonates with Reid due to of the healthcare accessibility challenges he has witnessed.
