Global Challenge: Enable high quality healthcare globally, especially for deprived communities.

Bio:

Hagar is a sophomore majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. She is originally from San Diego, California, but she currently can’t imagine living anywhere other than New York. She is passionate about sustainable pharmaceutical cosmetics, committed to creating clean, ethical, and environmentally responsible beauty solutions that prioritize both human well-being and global health. She believes that access to safe, non-toxic personal care is not a luxury, but a right—especially for communities historically deprived of quality healthcare and wellness resources.

Hagar’s interest in global health started in her high school internship at QuidelOrtho, where she was exposed to the work of chemical engineering for the Covid-19 disease and heart monitoring diagnostics. She shadowed lab technicians and scientists in sample preparation and diagnostic testing, and participated in workshops on diagnostic technology, molecular biology, and quality assurance. Hagar’s passion for people’s well being came to light when she identified the need and established and led a club dedicated to fostering inclusion for special education students during high school. She leveraged her leadership to organize monthly events, collaborated with teachers, and provided a supportive environment for the neurodivergent students.

Hagar is honored and thankful to be part of the GLASS community, and is excited to continue learning and growing as she works toward becoming a stronger and innovative leader.

Outside of NYU, Hagar loves going to see musicals on Broadway, trying new food places with her friends, and going to her favorite artists’ concerts.
