Creating new technologies using synthetic biology to solve real-world problems
The NYU iGEM Team participates in the annual iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machines) Competition. Hundreds of teams from around the world participate every year to showcase their research and product development in the field of synthetic biology. The NYU iGEM team designs and creates a new project each year in the area of our choice, incorporating skills in genetic engineering, chemical engineering, and biology. Techniques used in the lab to create the project center around prokaryotic molecular cloning and biotechnology.
Community outreach and collaborations with other teams are also important aspects of the NYU iGEM project. The team also engages in educational outreach activities and presents at the iGEM Competition, NYU Tandon Research Expo, NYU Prototyping Fund Showcase and more, earning awards and funding.
