NYU researchers developing technology to detect hidden GPS trackers
Ph.D. candidate Mo Satt — working under Assistant Professor Danny Y. Huang — is developing technology to detect hidden GPS trackers used by stalkers. Unlike existing solutions for Bluetooth trackers like AirTags, few options exist for GPS devices. Satt uses spectrum analyzers to identify GPS trackers' unique clockwork signal patterns, typically transmitting every minute to conserve battery. "If a cyber stalker is looking to track someone, they're not gonna use an AirTag because Apple and Samsung and Android have figured out a way to alert people," Satt explained, describing plans for a user-friendly app.
