Short Term Study Abroad - J-term, Spring Break, Summer

Japan

Due to Tandon's sometimes strict degree requirements, students may need to adhere to a strict four-year plan, making it difficult to study abroad for an entire semester. If this is the case, yet you want to participate in an international experience prior to graduation, you may want to look into studying abroad through one of the many Short Term Study Abroad programs available at NYU.

Tandon Specific Opportunities

The following opportunities have been developed by Tandon specifically for Tandon students. The staff at Tandon Global, are continuously working to develop global opportunities for upperclassmen during J-term, spring break, and summer. The following courses provide students an opportunity to immerse themselves in a focused academic topic taught by NYU Tandon faculty members with a required travel component.

Tandon Faculty Led Short Term Study Abroad Programs

Different member institutions of the Global Education Engineering Exchange (GE3) allow students from other GE3 schools to participate in their summer course offerings.

Although different schools offer different courses each year some past examples include:

  • Engineering for Sustainability at the Munich University of Applied Sciences in Germany,
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Israel
  • Industrial Design at KAIST - Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology in South Korea.

Check out the GE3 Summer Webpage for more information and opportunities.

Summer offerings are updated ever year in March

The Alternative Breaks (AB) program provides students with the opportunity to learn about political and social community dynamics while becoming a catalyst for collaborative social change. Through learning and practice, students will explore the theory of integrating service, education, and reflection to create meaningful change in their communities. Most, but not all programs, involved an international component.

Financial Aid and Cost

It is important to remember, students participating in Short Term Programs may incur additional costs not normally associated with their semesterly NYU tuition, financial aid, and coursework.

Students may apply for additional summer financial aid (application available mid February of each spring term) but this aid can only apply towards NYU Summer Abroad courses.
