Studying abroad offers you a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture and engage with people and history in a way that broadens the scope of traditional classroom education. Experiencing life in another country enables you to understand diverse international perspectives. It is an exercise of adaptation and strengthens one’s ability to communicate comfortably across different customs, traditions, and languages.

Study Abroad 101

Below we have divided the study abroad research, planning, and application process into 3 steps:

It is important to follow these steps when researching how study abroad works at NYU before setting up a meeting with Tandon Global.

Here, you can explore everything you need to plan and apply for an international experience:

  • My Applications: Apply to Tandon-exclusive semester and short term international exchange programs and track your application status here. If you’re applying to an NYU Global Site (e.g., NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Paris), please proceed to the NYU Study Away application.
     
  • Semester Exchange Programs: Discover our wide range of international partner schools. Each listing includes details on which majors are best suited for the program, housing options, location highlights, registration requirements, and more.
     
  • Course Offerings: Browse courses that have already been pre-approved for study abroad credit. This is a great starting point to determine which schools align with your academic and course preferences. The list is updated regularly and organized into two categories—evaluated and pending evaluation. Courses marked as pending are currently under review by the appropriate academic department.
     
  • Request Course Evaluations: If you find a course at an international exchange partner that is not listed under Course Offerings, you can submit a request for evaluation to determine if it can count as a Tandon equivalent.
