January, Spring Break, and Summer Term Opportunities
NYU Tandon offers unique short-term global programs designed specifically for Tandon students. These programs provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in a focused academic topic taught by NYU Tandon faculty with a required travel component. The programs run during J-term, spring break, and summer. The Tandon Global team is continually working to expand these global opportunities for upperclassmen.

NYU Buenos Aires: Argentina, Identity, and City Building
Department: Technology, Culture, and Society
This course explores how identity is shaped, claimed, and contested in Argentina, drawing upon perspectives from science, theory, sociology, urbanism, and development. It investigates how societies construct national identities through social structures like religion, class, gender, imperialism, and colonialism. We’ll explore how cultural ideas about nationalism influence knowledge production and examine how scientific and technological advancements shape our understanding of identity.
Travel Component:
This course includes a required trip to Buenos Aires during NYU’s January Term 2025, where students will participate in site visits, discussions, and research activities designed to immerse them in the cultural and urban landscape of the city. A mandatory Zoom orientation will be held after students are accepted into the program.

Credits: 4 credits (counts toward Tandon HUSS requirement)

Registration: The 4 credits will be added to your Spring 2025 semester’s course load. Although the program runs primarily during J-term, the course will be listed under Spring semester registration.

Pre-Travel Sessions: Students are required to attend a few pre-departure sessions toward the end of the Fall 2024 semester based on their schedules.
Costs
- Program Fee: $2,500 (paid through Albert, covers housing, international health insurance, and activities)
- Airfare: Approx. $900 (students book their own round-trip flights)
Accommodations
Students will stay in a hotel near NYU Buenos Aires, providing easy access to the program’s activities.
Flight, Travel and Visa
Students are responsible for booking their own flights to Buenos Aires. While it’s recommended to travel with the group, it’s essential that students arrive by the program’s start date.
A valid passport is required, and it must be valid for at least six months beyond the program’s end date. Upon admission, the Office of Global Services will assist with any necessary immigration documents, though most students will only need a passport to enter Argentina.
Eligibility

Students must have completed at least two semesters of university-level coursework (freshmen are still encouraged to apply).

Open to students from all NYU schools, including Tandon, Gallatin, CAS, Tisch, Stern, Global Liberal Studies, and Wagner.

Students should consult their academic advisers about how this course will count toward their degree requirements.

Non-NYU students are not eligible for this program.
