PTC Hours of Operation
Our general office hours are Monday through Friday 10:00am to 6:00pm during the fall and spring semesters. However, for specific course schedules please call us or come by the PTC for information. Below is our tutoring schedule for the Fall 2018 semester which will begin Monday, September 10. Please keep in mind that schedules may vary according to tutor availability.
We offer tutoring for: PH1013 (Mechanics), PH2023 (Electricity, Magnetism and Fluids) and PH2033 (Waves, Optics and Thermodynamics), as well as PH1213 (Motion and Sound) and PH1223 (Electricity & Light).
We offer tutoring for CM1004 (General Chemistry for Engineering) and CM1014 (General Chemistry 1) and CM1024 (General Chemistry 2), as well as CM2213 (Organic Chemistry 1) and CM2223 (Organic Chemistry 2).
We offer tutoring for CS1114 (Python), CS1134 (Data Structures & Algorithms using Python), CS2124 (Object Oriented Programing, C++) and CS1133 (MatLab), as well as CS2134 (Data Structures & Algorithms using C++), and , CS 2124 (Object Oriented Programing, C++), as well as ECE2004 (Fundamentals of Electric Circuits).
Tutoring is now offered for BMS1004 and BMS 2004
Drop-in tutoring means that you may come in without an appointment, at any time during the scheduled PTC hours. Tutors are available to answer questions or get you started on a homework problem. Tutors can go over material you are not clear on, either from class or from the textbook. They can also show you a variety of problem solving methods. You may attend drop-in tutoring as often as you'd like.
We offer tutoring for CE 2113 and ME 2213 (Statics), ME 3223 (Dynamics), ME 3413 (Automatic Control), and ME 3513 (Measurement Systems).
Review Sessions for Midterm and Final Exams
PTC Review Sessions will help you prepare for your exams, and are very popular with students. Review sessions are held for courses including: CS1114, CS1124, CS1133, PH1013, PH2023, PH2033, CM1004, CM1014 and CM1024. In a review session, you will practice solving problems on a “mock exam.” The tutor will then explain the problems and answer any questions you have about the material. Individual Sessions in the Writing Center
Help with writing is offered in one-to-one sessions, which typically last about 45 minutes. Bring your assignment, your questions, and any outline or draft that you’ve written so far. We advise you to stop by or phone us at 646.997.3425 to schedule an appointment. If you drop in without an appointment, we will help you if a writing consultant is available.
Drop-in Writing Tutoring, 12 – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday
Need help with an assignment but don't require an entire 45 minutes with a Writing Consultant? Stop by the PTC for a quick, 15 minute session with a member of our writing team!
These sessions are ideal for:
- brainstorming/ getting started on an essay
- fine-tuning your essay
- creating a thesis statement
- help beginning your own revision process
While the Writing Consultant will assist you as much as possible within the 15 minutes, he/she may further suggest that you sign up for a full session to work on your paper. Help is available on a first come, first served basis.
Conversation Groups for New English Speakers
If you are new to speaking English, join one of our conversation groups. Small groups of students meet weekly with an instructor for 8 weeks. Group meetings are informal, and are designed to help you become more fluent and more comfortable speaking English.
The Conversation Café: Fridays 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Interested in meeting new people at the School of Engineering and practicing your spoken English at the same time? Come by Friday afternoons to the PTC for a fun, informal gathering of the Conversation Cafe. Games, conversation and treats are always on the agenda!
