Online Student Orientation
Welcome new Summer 2018 Tandon Online students. During the weeks leading up to the beginning of classes, we will be providing you with the skills, resources, and information you will need to successfully complete your online program.
Congratulations on your acceptance to your online program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering! Every part of our online community, the faculty, staff, and students, look forward to welcoming you this Summer 2018 semester. More information will be provided to you soon as plans are finalized, but feel free to review some of the first steps you can take to beginning your degree!

What you will learn:
- How to activate your user accounts and get started
- How to access your online courses, submit assignments, attend a webinar and more
- Tips and strategies to help you succeed as an online learner
- The structure of NYU and important offices you may need to work with
- Who your academic advisor is, what they can help you with and how to set-up an appointment with them
- How to enroll in your online courses
- The array of resources available to online students (library services, academic advising, career services, tutoring and more)

New Student Checklist
If you have already been admitted, there are a number of tasks which you will need to complete before you can begin your orientation. Follow the steps below to complete these tasks and ensure you are ready and prepared for your orientation.
- Pay your tuition deposit
- Meet the conditions outlined in your acceptance letter (i.e. Proof of Degree, Official Transcripts, etc.)
- Activate your NetID
- Participate in the NYU Tandon Online Orientation Course for the Spring 2018 semester. Orientation will begin in December 2017
- Sign up for NYU Multi-Factor Authentication
The NYU Tandon Online Mentorship Program provides the perfect complement to prolong the support to incoming online students from the orientation week throughout their first semester at NYU.
Online Mentors are continuing online students who volunteer their time to welcome new students to our community. In the weeks leading up to the new semester, Tandon Online Mentors reach out to their mentees with helpful tips and suggestions on how to prepare for the online graduate program. They also share insight on how to succeed in an online learning environment during the course of your academic career at NYU.
New online students will be contacted during orientation to connect with a Tandon Online Mentor. After opting into this program, new students will be virtually introduced to their NYU Tandon Online Mentor by Luke Modzier, your Student Services Specialist, via email.

My name is Brittany Lynch and I am in my second year of the Bioinformatics Master’s program at NYU. I attended North Carolina Central University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Pre-Dental concentration. When I’m not creating and executing strands of scripts and codes, I play basketball and golf. I can play the guitar and the saxophone. Can’t wait to help you through your journey.

Monplaisir G Hamilton
Monplaisir Hamilton, Esq. is a Washington, DC lawyer. His practice encompasses intellectual property, data security, and privacy. Over the course of his career, he has represented startups, Fortune 500 corporations, and individuals. Before earning his law degree at The George Washington University Law School, he attended and graduated from Polytechnic University with dual bachelors of science degrees. His dual degrees focused on networks in the disciplines of Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Currently, he is a part-time graduate student at New York University's Tandon School of Engineering, where he is earning a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. Outside of work and school, Monplaisir enjoys spending time with his family, solving puzzles, traveling, and learning about traditional knowledge protected by cultures around the globe.

My name is Austin Ip, and I am currently a part time graduate student in the Industrial Engineering program. I was born in New York, but lived in New Jersey for most of my life. My undergraduate studies were done at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. I majored in Chemical Engineering and have done several internships, one of which was at BP. I currently work at a German plastic container manufacturer called Schuetz as a Technical Service Engineer. During my spare time, I like read up on different books (fantasy, adventure, science fiction, and mystery) and enjoy running outside.

Ashfaq Kamal is a Senior Business Leader, Identity Solutions at MasterCard Global, where he is responsible for Product Strategy, Product Architecture and Development of innovative cardholder authentication solutions that deliver strong security and seamless consumer experience for MasterCard cardholders and Issuers. Ashfaq's career spanned many years in engineering, technology strategy, and new product development roles within the smart card and telecom industries. Prior to joining MasterCard, Ashfaq worked for Verizon Wireless, where he led the development and deployment of a new generation of mobile devices and services for Verizon Wireless, focusing on such areas as mobile payments, biometrics, near-field communication, and device security.
Carlo Thompson is a Senior Wireless Engineer at a leading wireless operator. Majority of his work surrounds overall network planning, reliability and quality. With this year included Carlo has been in wireless technology around 17 years. Currently Carlo is pursuing a degree in technology management at NYU. Carlo has a passion for engineering, which brought him to the doors of NYU Tandon. Some of his interest includes smart cities, 5th generation wireless technologies and economics. On a personal level, he’s a happy husband and father and by his words “I found Tandon Online to be a great option for working professionals”. He also enjoys road cycling, most recently he completed the TD Bank Five Boro tour.
