The minimum GPA requirement is a 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale. The NYU Tandon School of Engineering reserves the right to investigate or disqualify educational credentials on a case-by-case basis.

Online Application
The Office of Graduate Admissions requires all applicants to complete the online application on or before the posted deadline for the desired term of entry. Please note that applications are considered complete once all required application materials have been received. After submission, you will not be able to make changes to your application information. Once submitted, we are unable to return your application materials or documents.
Application Fee
The non-refundable application fee is $90 and is payable online by major credit card. We do not offer refunds for the application fee so please do not pay the fee more than once per application. If you are having problems submitting your payment via credit card, email us at engineering.gradinfo@nyu.edu. If paying the application fee poses a financial hardship for you, we don’t want that to stop you from applying. You may request an application fee waiver via email.
Personal Essay
As part of your application, you are expected to respond, in writing, to two prompts. A response to both prompts is required. This is an opportunity for you to give us a stronger sense of who you are, as a person. Your essay should be as unique as you are and should be written using your voice. Include each prompt as the header for each of your two responses.
Additional video essays and other materials may be requested.
Résumé
A copy of your most recent résumé or curriculum vitae must be uploaded to the online application.
Official Transcripts and Degree Conferral (Proof of Degree)
For admissions review, we will accept copies of your unofficial transcript and proof of undergraduate degree (if completed) uploaded to your application or emailed to us at engineering.gradinfo@nyu.edu. Screenshots or student portal downloads will not be accepted or used in your application review. We require transcripts from all institutions attended and from which college-level credit was received, including non-degree and semester-long programs.
IMPORTANT: If you are offered admission, we will require final official transcripts from your undergraduate institution to finalize your admission, prior to the start of your first semester. To satisfy this requirement, we will accept hard copy/physical transcripts, or electronic transcripts, delivered electronically or physically, directly from your previous institution. No scanned copies will be accepted once you've been admitted. If official documents are not submitted prior to the start of the semester, your enrollment will be cancelled.
What is considered “Official”? A hard copy or physical transcript is considered official when it is in a sealed, unopened envelope mailed directly from your previous institution to NYU Tandon. An electronic transcript is considered official if it is sent through a digital credential service such as Parchment, Student Clearinghouse, Credential Solutions or a similar, or secure third-party platform, or emailed directly from your institution’s registrar’s office.
Please see sections below for specific country requirements.
Academic Records and Proof of Degree from Indian Institutions
- If sending attested copies of your mark sheets, the attestation must be made by (and only by) the Controller of Examinations or Registrar from the degree-granting institution and received in a sealed envelope from the institution.
- Indian students finishing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) after Grade 10 may choose to enter a polytechnic and pursue a three-year Diploma in Engineering program. Should they then seek admission into a Bachelor of Engineering (BEngr) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) program at a university, they will be placed in Year 2 of that four-year program with the prior Diploma study providing transfer credit equivalent to the first year of degree studies. Thus, a graduate applicant must submit marksheets and diploma for the Diploma in Engineering program in addition to the bachelor's degree credential.
- If a degree has been earned at the time of application, the Degree Certificate must be submitted. If the Degree Certificate is not yet available, a copy of the Provisional Degree will be accepted for admission review.
Transcripts Not Officially Issued in English from Any Country
- For any transcript that is not officially issued in English by the institution, an English-language translation is required. (Dual-language transcripts issued by the institution are acceptable and do not require translation). The translation document is not required to be sealed and will be accepted via email from the student.
- All translations must be:
- Complete and literal (word-for-word and line-by-line), replicating the original as precisely as possible, with no attempts at interpretation or evaluation
- Prepared in the same format as the original document
- Typed on organization or school letterhead/stationery
- Signed or stamped by an approved translator (see below)
- Official translations may be provided by one of the following:
- The institution issuing the transcript
- A consulate or embassy of the United States or of the institution’s country
- A professional, certified, and/or accredited translation agency
- Translations will not be accepted from:
- The applicant or members of his/her family
- Individuals not affiliated with any of the organizations listed above
Credential Evaluation Services
The Office of Graduate Enrollment Management and Admissions office conducts an independent, external evaluation of credentials (at no additional cost to the student). As such, there is no need to submit additional course-by-course evaluations. We do not accept credential evaluation reports like WES, ECE, etc. in place of your original transcripts. Failure to submit the correct documentation will delay the processing of your application. Please submit only the official transcripts and translations (if necessary).
