Global Challenge: Health

To travel means to meet yourself as well as others along the way. I will never know everything in the world, but I will always embrace that uncertainty as I continue to experience new things. I aspire to become a Global Leader that can truly change lives in any degree through any uncertainties."

Bio:

Hello! I’m Fabiha, a junior majoring in Biomolecular Science, and my passion for dentistry drives my academic and professional ambitions. I am deeply committed to contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Good Health and Well-Being, which has shaped much of my work and experiences. During my research apprenticeship at NYU Abu Dhabi, I gained hands-on experience isolating bacteria and analyzing the gut microbiome, giving me insight into the connection between what we consume and our overall well-being. Attending the 22nd World Congress on Dental Traumatology in Tokyo further solidified my interest in dentistry, where I was able to observe a variety of dental trauma cases and learn from experts across the globe. These experiences have broadened my understanding of healthcare disparities, particularly in oral health, and have motivated me to work toward improving access to quality dental care for underserved communities.

My involvement in GLASS has been instrumental in shaping my global perspective on health and well-being. From studying abroad in the UAE and France to participating in a service trip to Sri Lanka, I have witnessed first-hand how different cultures and healthcare systems approach the well-being of their populations. In Sri Lanka, I shadowed in the maxillofacial surgery wing of a hospital with limited resources, where I saw how clinicians navigate challenges to prioritize patient care. These experiences have not only enriched my academic knowledge but also developed my cultural competency and leadership skills. I am eager to continue learning and growing through future opportunities with GLASS, integrating my global experiences into my pursuit of a career in dentistry. Ultimately, I hope to use my skills and knowledge to contribute to better health outcomes, particularly in oral health, on a global scale!
