Still Perfect; Women's Hoops Beats Mount Saint Vincent

BROOKLYN, NY -  Saturday afternoon's Skyline Conference was a key early season test for the NYU-Poly women's basketball team as they looked to keep an unblemished record in conference play. But, the mission involved defeating Mount Saint Vincent, a team NYU-Poly had never beaten before. Consider it, mission accomplished as freshmen guard Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ) rained in six threes to pace the Lady Jays to a 66-57 win.

Larsen's 18 points went along with senior Kristin Leitheuser's (Millbrook, NY) game-high 22 points to lead the Lady Jays to the program's first-ever win over Mount Saint Vincent. Junior Margaux Pickell (Howell, NJ) also contributed 17 points and 17 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double. Larsen also led the way in assists with five.

The Lady Jays, which led 28-26 at the half, were a little sloppy in the turnover category, committing 24 turnovers to the Dolphins 21. But, NYU-Poly was 18-for-27 from the foul line, while Mount Saint Vincent was just 10-of-14.

Sarah Kluth led the way for the Dolphins scoring 17 points, while teammate Andree DeLeon added 15. All other MSV players were held under eight points.

The Lady Dolphins only led once in the first half, 3-0, and twice tied it early, but it would be NYU-Poly who would lead for the duration of the half.  Right off the bat, MSV tied it 28-28 in the beginning of the second stanza, and regained the lead 42-40 with 11:11 to play. But, NYU-Poly would go on an 8-0 run that put them up 48-42.  The lead never expanded beyond seven until the final moment when the Lady Jays converted 6 of 8 free throws to seal the nine point, monumental victory.
