NYU Hands NYU-Poly First Loss

NEW YORK, NY -  For the second straight year, the NYU women's basketball team handed NYU-Poly a pre-Thanksgiving day loss, this time by a convincing  95-51 at the Coles Center.  The win improves the Lady Violets to 4-0 on the season while the Lady Jays fall to 2-1.

The Violets ensured that there would be no blemish on their record from the get-go. After a back and forth start gave NYU just a 7-6 lead, a 14-1 run gave the Lady Violets a 21-7 lead roughly eight minutes in. NYU's lead eventually grew to as high as 18 in the first half. However, NYU-Poly cut the deficit to 12 at the break, remaining in the game despite being outrebounded by 18 and outshot 48.7% to 35.3%, by forcing a slew of NYU turnovers.

But the Violets held on to the ball much better in the second period while continuing to shoot well (44.2%) from the field. NYU closed out the game on a remarkable run, outscoring the Fighting Blue Jays 26-1 in the final 7:13 to record the victory.

Kristin Leitheuser (Millbrook, NY) led NYU-Poly with 14 points, while Margaux Pickell (Howell, NJ) posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ) added 13 points, three assists and three steals for the Fighting Blue Jays.

NYU-Poly returns to the court on Saturday in its home opener against Philadelphia Bible College. Game time is 2:00pm at the Jacobs Gymnasium.
