NSF awards $570k to a Poly-Stevens Partnership for Innovation Program

Polytechnic University and Stevens Institute of Technology received a joint 2-year, $570k grant from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Partnership for Innovation Program on January 11, 2008.
The NSF’s Partnership for Innovation Program aims, in part, “to stimulate the transformation of knowledge created by the research and education enterprise into innovations that create new wealth, build strong local, regional and national economies and improve the national well-being.”
For Poly and Stevens, that means embarking on a project to create an Environmental Entrepreneurship Lab (E2-Lab) that will foster rapid marketplace realization of environmental innovations that are capable of being adopted by existing companies or can serve as the basis for creating new ventures. The project is set to begin on January 15.
On the Poly side, Kurt H. Becker, Associate Provost for Research and Technology Initiatives, and Bruce Niswander, Director of Technology Transfer, IP Commercialization and Entrepreneuring, will serve as Co-Principal Investigators for the endeavor.
At Stevens, Lex McCusker, Dean of the Stevens Howe School of Technology Management, will serve as Principal Investigator. Christos Christodoulatos, Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Director of the Stevens Center for Environmental Systems, and Thomas Lechler, Professor of Technology Management in the Stevens Howe School of Technology Management, will serve as Co-Principal Investigators.
