Construction management executive Frank DarConte joins IDC Innovation Hub at NYU Tandon School of Engineering
BROOKLYN, New York, Wednesday, February 26, 2020 – The Institute of Design and Construction (IDC) Innovation Hub at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering announces the appointment of Frank DarConte, a recognized industry executive experienced in construction project delivery, as its inaugural director of applied research.
DarConte, who is also a licensed architect and a research professor in NYU Tandon’s Department of Civil and Urban Engineering, will develop programs that forge collaborations between NYU Tandon scholars and industry partners in architecture, engineering, and construction. He will be responsible for identifying and designing applied research projects focused on best practices and complex issues related to construction project delivery. Through research-driven initiatives, engineering, and construction management, NYU Tandon’s graduate students will be provided a unique opportunity to connect theory with practice.
For more than two decades DarConte served as a senior construction management executive providing pre-construction and construction phase services for both private and public sector clients at a regional and national scale. At NYU Tandon, he serves as the lead research investigator in support of project team alignment assessment workshops for the construction of the SUNY Albany’s Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex academic facility. His teaching assignments at NYU Tandon include Construction Materials and Methods and the graduate construction management capstone, Leadership, Ethics, and Project Execution. DarConte also maintains a construction project delivery advisory practice.
In announcing the appointment, Professor Michael Horodniceanu, chair of the IDC Innovation Hub, said, “Having Frank as a member of the Innovation Hub’s team will greatly aid us in working with our graduate students as they assist us in meeting the needs of our public and private sector members. As we seek to become the go-to entity for how to build better, our students will assist Frank in using data analytics toward our goals of building smarter, faster, and more economically using collaborative, high-performance teams. His well-regarded industry experience, coupled with his enthusiasm for creativity and research, will be a tremendous positive for all.”
DarConte is a registered architect in New York State and holds a doctorate in civil engineering from New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Pratt Institute School of Architecture, and a bachelor’s degree in architectural technology from New York Institute of Technology.
