Ann Lubrano Honored with
Ann Lubrano, Ph.D., Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and University Chief of Staff, received the Distinguished Women in Education Award on March 22, 2007, from Delta Kappa Gamma International, Alpha Beta Chapter.
Delta Kappa Gamma is a professional honorary society of women educators with a membership of over 150,000 spanning 14 countries. The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Established in 1929, Delta Kappa Gamma has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women educators at every level of education as well as in advancing the status of women educators.
Assemblywoman Janele Hyer-Spencer (D-East Shore/Brooklyn), guest speaker, recounted her humble origins and the struggles she endured during her rise to a seat in the state Assembly. The assemblywoman said honorees such as Lubrano inspire others and that the process must continue if women are to make significant gains in society.
Lubrano, a sociologist, author and past president of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, was also honored for her innovative leadership of the Chapter.
