2 Men Die in Basement Flooding as Sudden Downpour Hits New York Area

FloodNet, a project co-led by NYU Tandon’s Andrea Silverman, monitored record-setting flash flooding in New York City on October 30th. FloodNet's network of more than 250 flood sensors across the city reported the worst flooding occurred between 3 and 5 p.m., with Flatbush and Hollis, Queens experiencing floodwaters nearly two feet deep. Restaurant owner Kelly Hayes credited FloodNet's gauges near Prospect Park with providing early warning that allowed her to prepare for flooding at her Gowanus establishment.
