Alyshea Austern is the Executive Director of Faculty Affairs Administration at NYU Tandon, serving as the school's lead administrator on faculty policy, HR, governance, and compliance. In this role, she partners with academic leadership and central University offices to design and oversee faculty administrative systems, advise on complex and high-stakes personnel matters, and ensure the consistent and equitable application of faculty policies across the school.
Prior to joining Tandon, Alyshea was Special Assistant to the Provost and Faculty Facilitator at NYU Shanghai, based in Shanghai, where she was a member of the Senior Academic Leadership Team. There, she oversaw faculty-related strategic and operational planning for the Provost’s Office, developed and implemented faculty policies, and advised on faculty governance and complex personnel matters. She also served as the Provost’s liaison to faculty governance bodies, Human Resources, and the Office of General Counsel, and advised on matters arising from NYU Shanghai’s unique position as a Sino-U.S. university.
Alyshea began her career as an attorney at WilmerHale, focusing on complex litigation, internal investigations, and compliance.
Alyshea holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor’s in Government from Smith College.
