Is a STEM background required to register for the Bridge or Bridge OnRamp course?

A STEM background is not required. Learners from all disciplines are encouraged to enroll.
The Bridge OnRamp Precalculus and Introduction to Python courses are available for learners who do not have some exposure to the Python programming language, basic proficiency in college algebra, precalculus, or discrete math, data structures and algorithms, or principles of operating systems.
The Bridge OnRamp courses are not required to take the Bridge course but offer learners without a technical background or familiarity with these topics foundational knowledge to be successful in the Bridge course.
A short assessment to help learners determine whether they should take one or both of the Bridge OnRamp courses before entering the Bridge course is available on the Bridge OnRamp course website.

Do I need a visa to register for the Bridge or Bridge OnRamp course?

No. Since the Bridge course is an online, non-credit course, learners do not need to acquire a visa in order to register.

The Bridge course covers over 30 different STEM-related topics, including Computer Programming in C++, Object Oriented Design, Discrete Math, Data Structures and Algorithms, Principles of Operating Networks, and Introduction to Computer Networks.

What topics are covered in the Bridge OnRamp course?

Precalculus course topics include algebra and expressions, functions and graphs, polynomial and rational functions, and exponential and logarithmic functions.
Introduction to Python course topics include expressions (basics and arithmetic), control flow (selection statements and loops), and functions and data structures.

Are there any on-campus opportunities for Bridge or Bridge OnRamp learners?

The Bridge and Bridge OnRamp courses are fully online courses, and no parts of the courses are conducted on campus.

How do I access the Bridge or Bridge OnRamp course?

To access your courses, you will use NYU Continuing Education Brightspace. Learners will receive instructions on how to access their course in Brightspace.

Can I participate in this program and still work full-time?

Yes. The Bridge program is 100% online and self-paced, making it possible to balance your studies with full-time work. The total program time typically ranges from 480 to 560 hours, and learners have up to one year to complete all course requirements. This means you should plan to dedicate about 9–11 hours per week to stay on track for completion within a year. Many learners successfully manage the program alongside professional and personal commitments by setting a consistent weekly study schedule.

What is the total cost of the Bridge and Bridge OnRamp courses?

Tuition is payable by credit or debit card through the Bridge and Bridge OnRamp course registration pages. The total cost of the Bridge program is $4,000. The optional OnRamp course is $500. Learners who enroll in the Bridge OnRamp and continue into the Bridge course receive a $250 discount on their Bridge tuition — for a combined total of $4,250.
If you are located outside of the United States, the fee may be subject to local taxes, which are the sole responsibility of the participants.

Do the Bridge or Bridge OnRamp courses qualify for scholarships or financial aid?

The courses do not qualify for scholarships or financial aid; however, discounts are available for NYU alumni, partners, and groups.
Payment plans are also available. A maximum of four payments across six months is allowed.

Is there an option to receive a tuition refund?

Learners are eligible for a 97% tuition refund if they defer or withdraw from the course before logging into the course on the official start date. For the Bridge and Bridge OnRamp courses, the official start date is the date of registration and access to the course and materials.
Learners are eligible for a 57% tuition refund if they defer or withdraw from the course before having logged into the course within the first two weeks after registering.
After the second week post-registration, learners are not eligible to receive any tuition refund.
Transaction fees incurred during registration are not refundable, and these are accounted for in the tuition refund percentages listed above.

Does the Bridge program qualify for GI Bill and Veteran Funding?

Scholarships are not available for the Bridge course, and the course does not facilitate GI Bill & Veteran funding, nor is it able to guarantee the NYU Tandon Bridge course qualifies for funding. Please see New York University’s Veteran Benefits website for additional information.

As an NYU employee, does the Bridge program qualify for tuition remission?

NYU Tandon Bridge does not facilitate tuition remission for NYU employees, nor does it guarantee that the Bridge course qualifies for tuition remission. It is recommended that NYU employees contact their HR Department, which will be able to guide them through the process to apply for tuition remission. Please see New York University’s Tuition Remission website for employees for additional information.

Will I receive a transcript at the end of the course?

Learners who successfully complete the Bridge course by earning a passing letter grade of C (70%) or above will receive a certificate of completion. Learners will not receive a transcript as the course is a non-credit course.
Note that learners do not receive a credential for the Bridge OnRamp course.

What type of certificate will I receive?

Learners who successfully complete the Bridge course by earning a passing letter grade of C (70%) or above will receive an NYU Tandon Certificate in Core Computer Science Principles.

There is no expiration date listed on the Certificate in Core Computer Science Principles.
Bridge to a Master’s Program

Do I need to submit a master’s application?

All Bridge learners who wish to pursue a master’s degree are required to submit a formal graduate application.

What benefits do Bridge learners receive when applying to an NYU Tandon MS program?

Bridge learners will be automatically waived from the GRE requirement for their graduate application, and they will receive an application fee waiver code.

Is admission into a NYU Tandon graduate degree program guaranteed after completing the Bridge program?

No. NYU Tandon graduate applications receive a comprehensive review by our Graduate Admissions office. This holistic evaluation considers all application materials and applications must meet admissions requirements – including GPA and academic history.
Completing the Bridge course significantly enhances the readiness of applicants who previously lacked a technical background, equipping them with the necessary prerequisite skills to be eligible to apply for a STEM graduate degree program.
However, it is important to note that successful completion of the Bridge course, or earning a certificate, does not guarantee admission into a graduate degree program.
All Bridge learners must go through the regular graduate application review process to receive an admission decision on their application.

Bridge learners who wish to pursue a master’s degree need to submit their application by the regular graduate admission deadline for their desired start term. All application materials must be submitted by the published deadline.
