Guidelines

Each competing VIP team is asked to prepare a brief video presentation about their project (no more than 5 minutes long) addressing the following “Heilmeier” questions:

GOALS:

  • What are you trying to do? Articulate your objectives using absolutely no jargon.

INNOVATION:

  • How is it done today, and what are the limits of current practice?
  • What is new in your approach and why do you think it will be successful?

IMPACT:

  • Who cares?
  • If you are successful, what difference will it make?

VIABILITY:

  • What are the risks?
  • How much will it cost?
  • How long will it take?
  • What are the mid-term and final criteria for success?

In addition to the above areas, teams will also be evaluated on PRESENTATION EFFECTIVENESS. Students are encouraged to be creative in their approach and to incorporate visuals to illustrate content rather than relying on text-heavy slides.

Rubric: Review the judging rubric

Submission: Each team is asked to submit their video presentation to VIP (vip@nyu.edu) as an .mp4/mov format video file shared via Google Drive.

Levels

There are two levels of competition: local and international. The same video presentation will be submitted for both competition levels.

Local: New York University

International: VIP Consortium (See all VIP Institutions)
