Global Challenge: Increasing efficiency of our ever-complex technologies
Hailing from Seattle, Kaavya Trivedi grew up immersed in a heavily techie culture and yet only discovered an interest in computational complexity theory (the study of resource usage of computational solutions) late in high school. She is currently an undergraduate student studying computer science at NYU Tandon. Her name translates to poetry, which is in fact one of her favorite things to do – she loves being creative whether through writing, singing, collaging, sketching, or screenprinting. These many and varied areas of interest have led Kaavya to strongly value versatility, the ability to embrace and encompass multiple facets as a single person.
That spark for complexity analysis, coupled with Kaavya’s affinity for public speaking and writing, lend themselves to a natural passion for CS research. Since her start at Tandon, she has been working on researching multi-agent AI workflows and how to make them more effective with Dr. Raz Saremi; she continued this project as an Undergraduate Summer Research Program (UGSRP) fellow. She has also brought her love for community-building and access to information to being Webmaster for the Women in Computing chapter at NYU. From these experiences she has learned how her interest in her field of study can serve a larger purpose, whether to help build a community or improve the industry standard every day – and this is her ultimate purpose in her career as well. Her ambition is to continue to “always be confused”: to never lose her desire to find the answer to any question she encounters, and constantly be expanding her mind past what she already knows.
Kaavya’s love for versatility has lent itself to her working toward fluency in five different languages, and it’s this global aptitude and constant curiosity that drew her to GLASS. As a GLASS scholar, she most looks forward to bonding with and learning from her cohort and the GLASS mentors, who will offer invaluable insights from their varying life experiences. The global issue she is most interested in is resource use, in alignment with UN SDG #12: Sustainable Consumption and Production. Because computational complexity theory was her gateway into loving CS, as a current AI researcher, and hailing from the glorious natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, a large concern of hers is resource usage under current AI workflows. As a GLASS scholar and beyond, she hopes to be part of the solution.
