Global Challenge: Make the cities of the future smart and resilient

Bio:

Ben Akilov is a civil engineering student at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Born and raised just a short drive from Manhattan, in Queens, NY, Ben grew up fascinated by New York City’s skyline. This served as an early inspiration for his interest in urban development.

This summer Ben is interning at a local property management company, where he’s gaining hands-on experience in residential construction, plumbing systems, and general contracting. This experience builds on his involvement in the ACE (Arhictecutre Construction Enginnering) Mentors program, which he joined in his freshman year of high school. As part of ACE he was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Charlie Thornton Memorial Scholarship.

On campus, Ben is actively involved in community service and through Project Outreach, he’s collaborated with fellow NYU students on service projects across the city.

Ben is excited to join the GLASS program because he is passionate about sustainable construction and urban planning. His goal is to contribute to building greener, more resilient cities.

In his free time, Ben enjoys boxing, running, and going to the gym. In addition he loves exploring everything the city and everything it has to offer.
