Global Challenge: Cybersecurity and CS knowledge in areas of Central and South America

Bio:

I am a sophomore majoring in Computer Science with minors in Cybersecurity and Mathematics. Having lived on Long Island my entire life, coming to NYU was exciting due to the many opportunities offered by both NYU and NYC. As a first-generation student from Salvadoran immigrant parents, I feel immense pride in being the first in my family to attend university and make sure to represent my culture whenever I can.

Currently, through the Opportunity Programs I am working as a Summer Peer Leader guiding incoming first-years through a preparative six-week program. I am also part of a virtual YOLOv8 research course learning about AI and video-detection technology. This upcoming semester I will be an Opportunity Programs Professional Committee Chair where I will plan professional development events for students. I will also take on a leadership position through My Brothers Keeper, where I plan on crafting a mentorship program for students of color in engineering and holding professional events to prepare them for their respective careers. I am also an active member of the Society of Professional Engineers (SHPE), Latinos Unidos Con Honor y Amistad (LUCHA), and Central Americans For Empowerment (CAFE).

Non-academically I enjoy listening to music, going on bike rides, building Lego, and playing soccer. Overall, I hope to help anyone that I can, especially those with similar backgrounds as me, and grow my leadership skills through different outlets.
