New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO)

Spring 2022 - Wednesday, January 19 - Thursday, January 20

New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) is an opportunity for our new graduate students at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering to come together and begin their journey at NYU.  As a new student at NYU School of Engineering, it is important that you take advantage of all orientation has to offer. Below is information regarding registering for and attending the various Orientation sessions, as well as some helpful links to help you prepare for your arrival at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

NGSO will include opportunities to join hangouts with your Graduate Orientation Leaders (GOLs) prior to the official orientation days which are January 19th - January 20th. These are opportunities to meet other incoming graduate students as well as meet current students. 

You will be REQUIRED to register for NGSO using below registration links. Please note, that NGSO will be virtual this semester. If your N Number does not work, please email nyuengrgradlife@nyu.edu. Remember the required session is the Welcome to Graduate School at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering which will be offered. We encourage you to attend as many of the other sessions as you can as they will be able to provide you opportunities to meet various offices as well as other students.

Pre-Graduate Orientation Hangouts

New Graduate Student Orientation will include opportunities to join hangouts with your Graduate Orientation Captains (GOCs) prior to the official orientation days. These are great opportunities to meet other incoming graduate students as well as meet current students! Make sure to register before each hangout session via Zoom in order to attend. Please see the below schedule and registration links.

Friday, January 14

6:00 - 7:30 Speed Friending # 1 with your Graduate Orientation Team! 

Want to make new friends before your first semester of graduate school starts? Join us for some rounds of speed friending where you can meet individuals from other majors or in your major! After speed friending, your orientation leaders and captains will be answering any questions or concerns you have in a Q and A session!

Saturday, January 15

6:00 - 7:30 Speed Friending # 2 with your Graduate Orientation Team! 

If you weren't able to make it on Friday, join us on Saturday for another round of Speed Friending! Come back to make more friends or chat with the ones you made yesterday! If you're new, that's okay too! You'll find friends in all of us: new incoming students, your GOLs, and your GOCs!

Tuesday, January 18

7:30 - 8:30 Virtual Game Night! 

Come join your GOLs and GOCs for a fun night of games! We'll be playing games from Jackbox as well as Scribbl.io! Don't forget to bring your competitive but fun-spirited nature!

Virtual NGSO Schedule

Below you will find the schedule for New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO). Over the course of the two days of orientation there are sessions that will provide you with information about ways to engage with NYU Tandon as well as sessions where you will hear from current faculty, students, staff, and alumni. As a reminder, you are required to attend one of the two sessions offered for the Welcome to Graduate School at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The NYU Tandon MakerSpace is a cutting edge lab aiming to foster projects at the intersection of technology, creativity and innovation. It is open to all NYU students, and it features rapid prototyping and PCB production equipment, as well as advanced machining and testing capabilities. During this session, the MakerSpace Managers will introduce themselves and machines available, discuss how to attend training sessions and workshops, and highlight a few example projects.

4:00 - 5:15 - Office of Global Services: Welcome for New International Graduate Tandon Students

This meeting is intended for all new international students in F-1 or J-1 status at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. In this meeting you will virtually meet other students and discuss topics like work, travel, and adjusting to life at NYU with Office of Global Services staff! This meeting will give you plenty of chances to connect with other students and review important concepts, both new and already reviewed in the online training. This meeting best serves students who will be physically present in New York for the spring semester.

You must complete both the US Immigration Requirements Training and the New International Student Welcome to NYU Meeting to fulfill the orientation requirement.

5:30 - 6:30 - Tandon Social: Virtual Escape the Room!

Join your fellow new students for Beat The Bomb, Brooklyn's hottest virtual escape room. You’ll navigate your way through puzzles and games that will test your team’s ability to communicate and work seamlessly together. Rack up as many points as you can in the first 2 games to earn time for the final challenge to defuse The Bomb!

Pre-Arrival Checklist

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (Office of Global Services)

  • Complete the arrival form and submit your immigration documents to OGS online in August. You will need PDF or JPG copies of the following items to upload to the form:

    • passport
    • F-1 or J-1 visa 
    • I-94 record, I-20 or DS-2019 
    • and your dependent's documents (if you have a spouse or children here with you as F-2 or J-2 dependents). You can ONLY complete this once you have arrived in the United States.
  • Connect with the NYU Office of Global Services on their social media platforms
