Examples of why you would request for visiting scholar status:

  • Faculty on sabbatical in New York
  • Collaborating with full-time faculty (on a grant, publication, proposal) at NYU
  • Individuals who have completed a terminal degree (completed Ph.D. degree)

Visiting Scholar Policy

  • Visiting Scholar requests are subject to the approval of the department chair, Vice Dean for Research, and University Provost
  • Applications should be submitted at least 4 weeks in advance of the start date to allow for review by Office of Ethics and Compliance (OEC) review (see Visiting Scholars and Compliance)
  • Retroactive start dates are not permitted for Visiting Scholar application requests. All requests must have future start dates (See above bullet)
  • Tandon and NYU do not provide any assistance with locating housing for Visiting Scholars
  • Tandon does not provide office space. An office space is at the discretion of the sponsoring department. If applicable, all required University training for lab facilities must be completed
  • A Visiting Research Professor title is reserved for visiting faculty who hold a full-professor title at their home institution, or for those holding an associate faculty title at their home institution, who are preeminent in their field
  • Must have a paid faculty or research position elsewhere
  • Visiting Scholars are not employees and are not permitted to function as employees
  • Tandon and NYU cannot sponsor visiting scholar appointments for external faculty members of a dissertation committee
  • Due to compliance requirements, Emeriti faculty may not serve as a Faculty Sponsor. Faculty Sponsors should ideally be a currently-employed full-time faculty member or researcher

A Visiting Scholar may:
