Research Appointments
Faculty who want to hire a research staff should inform their department administrator as the starting point.
These roles are crucial for conducting research, developing new technologies, and contributing to scientific advancement.
Research Appointment Hiring Process
The process for all research appointments (non-NYU student) that are approved through the Office of Research is as follow (see process flow chart):
- Faculty begin by informing the department administrator of their request for a research position.
- Faculty prepares a job ad using the template. This needs to be completed at least one month before the expected hiring date. If a visa is required, please submit 6 weeks prior to ensure timely processing and hiring.
- Department sends the final draft of the job ad to Tandon Human Resources at soe-hr@nyu.edu for first review. Please note that individual faculty should not submit directly to Tandon Human Resources.
- Tandon Human Resources will send to Vice Dean for Research for final review and approval.
- The job ad will be published online in Interfolio (requires a minimum of five (5) business days).
- All appointments are fully onsite.
- Adhering to ethical guidelines and safety protocols.
- New research appointment hires must strictly adhere to the position title, description, and salary range specified in the job advertisement approved for posting in Interfolio.
All research appointments agree to abide by all applicable NYU policies for NYU Washington Square and NYU’s nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policies, conflicts of interest policies and intellectual property policies.
Once the faculty/department has selected a candidate, the following steps are needed to generate an appointment letter.
- The Dept. Administrator enters the Research Appointment information into their department’s Adobe Upload spreadsheet, and sends an email to TandonVDR@nyu.edu to inform them of the upload.
- The Office of Research initiates the Adobe process which includes approval and/or signature in the following order:
- Senior Administrative Manager (Office of Research)
- Department Administrator.
- Vice Dean of Research.
- Research Candidate.
- Once the document has all the approval/signatures, a copy of the completed document will automatically (from Adobe) be sent to the Department Chair, Department. Administrator, Research Associate, soe-hr@nyu.edu and TandonVDR@nyu.edu.
- The Office of Research uploads a copy of the completed Adobe Research Appointment letter into the department’s Professional Researcher folder in NYU Box.
- Tandon Human Resources and Department Administrator will begin processing the appointment.
