Paterson Partners With NYU to Tackle Illegal Dumping and Traffic Safety

The Center for Urban Science + Progress is partnering with Paterson, New Jersey, to develop data-driven approaches to illegal dumping, traffic safety and other municipal challenges. Students will explore using AI to identify dumping patterns, including analyzing footage collected by cameras on street sweepers, and examine crash data to help officials prioritize road safety improvements. Mayor Andre Sayegh said the partnership would give Paterson access to university expertise while providing students with practical experience addressing urban problems.
