NYU Langone Researchers Build AI-Powered Tools to Improve Accessibility for Blind People
Associate Professor John-Ross Rizzo's lab has built three AI navigation tools for blind and low-vision New Yorkers: Shopscout, a wearable grocery-shopping backpack; Commute Booster, a subway sign-reading app that helped users complete trips 33% faster in testing; and Unav, a signal-free indoor GPS. "I like to pick my own…produce," Rizzo said of the tools' aim to preserve independence rather than replace it.
