How autonomous vehicles can talk to one another
Professor Yong Liu discussed his autonomous vehicle research, presenting a decentralized system enabling self-driving cars to share AI models while preserving privacy through federated learning. Vehicles exchange trained models — not raw data — via direct vehicle-to-vehicle communication when in proximity. "The more vehicles join the system, you are going to achieve better efficiency," Liu explained, describing how the approach improves navigation and object detection across different vehicle brands.
