Heat impact on NYC transit systems
Professor Masoud Ghandehari discussed the effect of high temperatures on New York City subways: “It’s an older system and these things [power outages and other disruptions] happen” because of excessive heat. He notes that renovations can reduce heat and other weather-related service disruptions, but system-wide upgrades require significant investment.
