AI-Powered Ransomware That Sparked Concern Was NYU's Work
Cybersecurity firm ESET announced discovering the first AI-powered ransomware, dubbed PromptLock, only to learn two days later it was not actual malware but a research prototype from NYU Tandon. Doctoral candidate Md Raz and his colleagues created "Ransomware 3.0" to demonstrate how large language models could autonomously execute complete cyberattacks all without requiring coding knowledge.
