This AI can tell you your food’s nutritional value

Associate Research Professor Prabodh Panindre and Professor Sunil Kumar developed an AI food-scanning system that analyzes meal photos to determine nutritional content. The technology uses deep-learning algorithms to recognize foods and calculate calories and macronutrients. Originally motivated by firefighter health concerns, the system eliminates subjective reporting. "Traditional methods of tracking food intake rely heavily on self-reporting, which is notoriously unreliable," said Panindre. "Our system removes human error from the equation."
