James Ihn

James Ihn brings over 13 years of higher education experience to the MAE department, having worked across student affairs, academic affairs, and administrative operations at institutions including Columbia University and Stevens Institute of Technology. His breadth of experience across both small private schools and large research universities gives him a unique perspective on what it takes to run a department well.

Since joining NYU Tandon, James has set his sights on three clear priorities. First, making student-facing services excellent, ensuring every student feels supported and gets their full tuition's worth. Second, streamlining administrative processes across the department, from reimbursements and finances to grants administration, so that faculty and staff can focus on the work that matters. Third, elevating the reputation and prestige of the MAE department by attracting top faculty, staying on the cutting edge of curriculum, and creating an environment that draws the best students and researchers.

For James, a well-run department comes down to one thing: communication. Clear expectations, shared goals, and a collaborative environment where everyone feels they can contribute.
