Duy Thinh Do is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP), NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where he works at the intersection of urban science, human-centered design and planning, and urban design. His research focuses on understanding the relationships between individuals, communities, and their surrounding environments, encompassing both natural and social settings. His work pays particular attention to rapidly urbanizing and climate-vulnerable regions in Southeast Asia and addresses both tangible dimensions, such as the built environment, and intangible dimensions, including policy and governance frameworks. He is also interested in smart cities, urban sustainability, and technology-enabled governance.
He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Design and Architectural Planning from Hokkaido University and has held academic appointments as a researcher and lecturer at multiple universities in Vietnam. Thinh was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Chicago, where his research examined urban perception, environmental behavior, and socio-spatial equity.
His research integrates urban planning, data-informed spatial analysis, and policy-oriented design, addressing themes such as urban attractiveness, cultural landscapes, climate adaptation, urban configuration, and community resilience. He has published extensively in leading international journals and has served as a principal investigator and scientific coordinator on several nationally funded research projects.
At NYU Tandon, his current work contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives in smart infrastructure, urban analytics, and innovation-driven urban governance.
