Portrait of Ana Carolina de Assis Nunes

Ana Carolina de Assis Nunes is a Brazilian anthropologist and researcher on Data & Society’s Trustworthy Infrastructures team. Her research interrogates America by looking at its tech industry, more specifically, the "materiality of the cloud", or how data centers intersect with colonialism, land expropriation, and nation-making ideals. She completed her doctorate at Oregon State University, where her research examined industrial practices in and around the Columbia River since the 1930s, culminating in the region's recent influx of data centers. She joined NYU in 2026.
