Geek of the Month: Big Data: A Conversation with Juliana Freire

Lecture / Panel

For NYU Community

Coffee from 8:45 AM, Session from 9:00 - 9:45 AM
Hosted at Microsoft Technology Center, Eleven Times Square (Corner of 41st Street and 8th Avenue), New York

Join us for an intimate, casual presentation and discussion guided by Manoush Zomorodi, host of WNYC’s New Tech City, with professor Juliana Freire, who is a leader in big data visualization and analysis through her work with NYU's Center for Data Science, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.

Professor Freire will share insights on harnessing big data's potential, as well as discuss her research parsing data to understand urban environments. This second occasion of our Geek of the Month series is intended to provoke discussion on what's possible—think of it as a crash course in the subject at hand.

Following the session, Microsoft invites you to join them for a tour of their new Technology Center in NY and a discussion of their Big Data and Business Insights solutions, including new offerings to support organizations in the “era of ambient intelligence.”
