- Do I need a C-14 Certificate of Fitness and how do I get one?

All laboratory personnel including research faculty, clinical faculty, post-docs, TAs, PhD students, and technicians are required to obtain an FDNY C-14 Certificate of Fitness for Supervising Non-Production Chemical Laboratories (C-14). The C-14 Certificate of Fitness can be obtained by completing the EHS BioRAFT training session “Introduction to Certificate of Fitness (C-14)” and passing a written exam or qualifying for an exam exemption on the basis of education or experience.
- What safety training do I need to take?

All researchers are required to attend various safety trainings and refresher trainings depending on your work and exposure risks. NYU Environmental Health and Safety sponsors these trainings either in person or online via BioRAFT. Online trainings and registration for in-person trainings can be found in the Course Directory under the Trainings section of BioRAFT. You may check your training requirements and compliance at any time in the Compliance section of BioRAFT. BioRAFT is found in NYU Home. You may find the training schedule on the EHS Training Website.
- How do I dispose of laboratory waste?

Laboratories generate many different types of waste including regulated medical waste also known as biohazardous waste, sharps, hazardous chemical waste, non-hazardous waste, broken glass, and old equipment and computers. Each type of waste is collected and treated according to the particular hazards it poses by Triumvirate, a specialty hazardous waste removal company. - How can I make arrangements for a waste pick-up?

Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) must be packaged, boxed up, and taped by the user (PI, researcher) and labeled with the lab name and room number before being brought over to the waste storage room.
Hazardous Waste- Please submit a request via: Waste Pickup Request Form in SciShield to arrange for a hazardous waste pick-up.
Universal Waste- Fluorescent bulbs, ballasts, and batteries are picked up by CBS. Please submit a request via Waste Pickup Request Form for a pick-up. For additional information, please contact EHS at 212-998-1450 or ehs@nyu.edu.
