First Year Experience
You have made an excellent choice to attend the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Our first year experience programs are here to support you as you transition into university life here in Brooklyn!
Attention NEW students! Welcome Week just ended, classes are beginning, and it feels like all the information you learned during Orientation just went over your head. Well, don’t worry – that’s where LAUNCH comes in!
The purpose of LAUNCH is to prepare our first-year and transfer student communities to successfully launch their Tandon journey. The program spans the crucial first six weeks of the semester. This Spring, we are piloting four (4) LAUNCH mentorship groups, where two current students will serve as mentors to a group of 10 incoming students. These mentorship groups will meet once per week. Each week, the groups will discuss a different topic including managing academics, navigating NYC, getting involved on campus, professional and career development, goal setting, and more.
The curriculum will be designed by professional staff in the Office of Student Activities & Resource Center and facilitated entirely by the student mentors. Your mentors are dynamic students who are responsible for facilitating your growth and progression on a social, academic and transitional level. Mentors are also encouraged to assist their Mentees they are assigned to with specific issues revolving around life on campus. Mentors also act as role models through example and provide support to student resources for their Mentees.
Program Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Mentees must be currently enrolled, full-time, on-campus Spring 2020 admitted students at NYU Tandon
- Mentees must attend all weekly meetings. Meeting options are listed below and will occur once per week from the week of February 3rd through the week of March 13th.
- Mentees must keep in communication with your mentor as best as you can.
