Our Mission

The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) was established to offer strategic leadership for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Belonging at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The OIE works to build and foster diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, restoration, reconciliation, and accessibility at NYU Tandon. The goal is to create a learning and research environment that is reflective of the diversity of our country and our global community.

Our Work

Together with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners, the OIE will guide practices and create opportunities to define, assess and promote inclusive excellence. Those practices encourage:

  • The creation of learning, social, collegial, and professional environments in which every individual is welcomed, respected, supported, and valued.
  • The range of human differences, including (but not limited to) race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, national origin, (dis)ability status, religious commitments, age, political views, and learning and cognitive style.
  • The creation and maintaining of a cultural, institutional, and social climate based on mutual respect and shared values.
  • Fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all members of our community.

The OIE is currently facilitating strategic planning and creating mechanisms for transparency in its implementation with the goal to promote organizational change. The OIE will also offer training and instruction for faculty, staff, and students in the areas of social justice, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, racial healing and culturally humble conduct.
