The NYU Tandon School of Engineering is committed to excellence and inclusion in STEM research and education. In this framework, we invite advanced doctoral degree candidates and postdoctoral fellows working in engineering fields, who are passionate about science and driven to make the world a better place, to apply to the prestigious Tandon Faculty First-Look Fellowship program. 

Fellows will have the opportunity to present research to Tandon faculty working in their field of engineering, and engage with NYU Tandon deans and faculty from a range of engineering disciplines through workshops designed to help them advance their careers, including:

  • Best practices to prepare for the faculty recruitment, application, interview, and selection process
  • How to write compelling application cover letters, research and teaching statements, and CVs
  • The latest information about NYU’s Postdoctoral Programs

The Tandon Faculty First-Look Fellowship program will be held in-person February 27-28, 2025 at the campus in MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY. Fellows will arrive on campus to attend a dinner with the faculty on Thursday, February 27, 2025, followed by the Tandon Faculty First-Look Fellowship program, which will be held in-person on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM. All domestic travel expenses will be covered.


Eligibility

Eligible participants include doctoral degree candidates and post-doctoral fellows who work in engineering fields represented by NYU Tandon’s faculty, departments, and research centers. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. NYU is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of Visas for participation.

All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants from African American, Latinx, American Indian, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian descent, and other underserved populations in engineering including women, scholars with disabilities and those who are first in their families to attend college are especially encouraged to apply.


How to Apply

Applications are open for the in-person event in February 2025, and are due January 18, 2025.

Interested candidates will submit the following (as individual documents):

  1. Personal Statement: to include career aspirations, your contribution to equity and inclusion in the Academy, anticipated dissertation completion date, and why participating in NYU Tandon’s Faculty First-Look will help you achieve your goals. Maximum 750-word count
  2. Dissertation Abstract: maximum 250-word count
  3. Curriculum Vitae
  4. Inclusion Statement: detailing your contribution to diversity and inclusion in the Academy including but not limited to classroom inclusion, public outreach, community engagement, mentoring etc. Maximum 500-word count.
  5. Letter of Recommendation from dissertation advisor, verifying anticipated dissertation date
  6. Supplemental Form
