Brand Applications and Guidelines
On this page you will find templates that present a consistent visual identity and examples of branded goods, as well as guidelines that foster professionalism and cohesiveness.
Templates
NYU Tandon templates are available in Google Workspace when you are logged in with your NYU NetID, and can be downloaded for customization.
Branded Merchandise
Tandon-branded items are a fun way to show pride and build community spirit. In most cases we recommend using Tandon-only branding. It will be the more identifiable mark to promote the best brand awareness.
NYU Tandon’s Marketing and Communications department has a variety of useful items available to promote our school. Please email engineering.marcomm@nyu.edu to inquire about our current selection.
Custom Merchandise
Please reach out to engineering.creative@nyu.edu for guidance on the design and procurement of branded merchandise for your unit.
Event Collateral
In most external use cases we recommend using Tandon-only branding as it will promote the best brand awareness. If necessary, the name of a Administrative or Academic Unit can appear in the footer or header along with the Tandon logo.
The Marketing and Communications Department has NYU Tandon banners, tablecloths, and signage to borrow for events. Contact engineering.marcomm@nyu.edu to request the use of any of our collateral.
Custom Collateral
To discuss custom banners, tablecloths and directional signage for specific events contact engineering.marcomm@nyu.edu.
Email Blasts
Official departmental communications should be sent under the Department Email Header. To send an email blast please use the Email Blast Request Form. Please allow 3-5 business days for turnaround on email requests.
Email Signatures
Keep email signatures simple. Don’t get overly complex when formatting your email signatures and keep the number of lines to a minimum.
Images and Logos:
Do not use images (logos or social media icons) within the email signature. Images can come across as attachments and appear chaotic. Many email clients and mobile devices block the appearance of images.
Snail Mail Addresses:
Rarely needed so repeating it in every signature is unnecessary. In most cases when an address is needed you simply write it in the body of the email.
Email Addresses:
Including your email address is redundant and unnecessary.
Quotes:
Refrain from the use of quotes or epigraphs. It is important to avoid the potential confusion of external audiences assuming a particular statement represents the University’s official slogan, ideology, or brand promises.
Text Formatting:
Use plain text so that the signature is compatible with all email clients devices. Avoid colors, special fonts, bold, italics, and html.
Social Media:
To be discoverable socially, use your account handle as plain text and make sure that the name used in your e-mail signature is searchable on the networks you use.

Visual Guidelines
When creating graphics for social media, simple concepts are better. Keep in mind:
- Keep your graphics clear of text as much as possible.
- Photos work best for header images because they resize differently on desktop and mobile; text and graphics can get cut off or covered depending on the device a visitor uses.
- Most social media use is done on a phone and reading tiny text in a graphic doesn’t create a positive user experience. Details are best communicated in the text of your social media post.
- Image size requirements vary across platforms. Consult a social media image size guide for proper sizing and scaling information.
Visit Social Media at NYU Tandon for social media support and best practices.
Web
All core NYU Tandon websites, including all academic and administrative units, research centers, labs, and institutes, should follow the school's brand guidelines. Sites are required to:
- Use official brand fonts, colors, and graphic elements.
- Be mobile optimized/responsive.
- Be WCAG 2.1 AA compliant and follow NYU's Digital Accessibility Policy.
- Have a dedicated content manager responsible for keeping the site updated and serving as the primary point of contact.
Faculty in need of a lab/research website are encouraged to take advantage of the Tandon-branded template available via NYU Web Publishing. Visit Create a Lab Website to learn more.
