This company has transformed the production of a traditional product (candies) into a portfolio of highly innovative Industry 4.0 production processes (mass customization), business models (direct digital integration between e-commerce and production equipment, as well as turnkey small-scale production units with ongoing licensing fees), and products (constant design of new natural-only candies). Although supported by financial institutions, the company was still a small business with limited resources and bandwidth, facing limitless business opportunities and innovation ideas. Using a combination of competitive analysis and field research such as store visits and interviews with potential users, students helped prioritize the company's US investments and help define its market roll-out.
