Tenure-Track Faculty
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (NYU Tandon) invites applications for multiple tenure track positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024.
We are looking for strong candidates working in a broad set of research areas within computer science. Areas of focus for this search are visualization, data engineering, cybersecurity (especially in the areas of Emerging Media, Health, Sustainability, Systems, and Responsible Technology), and theory with applications to other research areas (e.g. Theory + Responsible Computing, Theory + Data Management, Theory + Scientific Computing, etc.)
Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. We seek an individual with a strong record of scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, entrepreneurship, and an excellent funding record.
Competitive salaries and startup packages will be offered. New appointees are expected to be outstanding scholars and to participate in teaching at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. NYU offers an excellent scholarly environment, with a large and rapidly expanding group of faculty working in computer and data science.
The CSE department has 21 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, including 13 NSF CAREER Award winners, as well as 13 contract faculty members. We have multiple tenure-track faculty slots open for growth. The department has a history of collaborative research across NYU, including with the Center for Urban Science and Progress, the Center for Data Science, the Grossman School of Medicine, the Global School of Public Health, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and other Tandon School of Engineering Departments.
Departmental research areas include big data management, analysis, and visualization, security and privacy, algorithms and theory, and machine learning. We also have groups working in interdisciplinary research areas like AI for games, responsible AI, cybercrime, public health and social media, online political communication, urban computing, and sports analytics.
Tenure-Track Positions in Artificial Intelligence
As a part of its Artificial Intelligence Initiative, New York University invites candidates to apply for open rank positions in AI. The search is conducted jointly by the NYU Courant Computer Science department, the NYU Center for Data Science, and two departments at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering: the Tandon Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Tandon Department of Computer Science Engineering. The faculty appointments can be in any of the three units (Courant Computer Science, the Center for Data Science, and Tandon), or joint.
We are looking for strong candidates working in a broad set of areas of AI, including, but not limited to, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and AI for Health, as well as candidates combining a strong research program in AI with research in other areas of computer science, data science, electrical and computer engineering, and other disciplines.
New appointees are expected to be outstanding scholars and to participate in teaching at all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. NYU offers an outstanding scholarly environment, with a large and rapidly expanding group of faculty working in AI.
Collaborative research with industry is facilitated by geographic proximity to AI research labs at Facebook, Google, IBM, Bell Labs, NEC, AT&T, Siemens, Flatiron Institute and many companies and nonprofits involved in AI research and applications.
For candidates interested in AI for Health, ample opportunities exist to develop collaborative and translational research projects with NYU Langone Medical Center, the Grossman School of Medicine, the College of Dentistry, and other top-notch medical institutions in the New York area.
Faculty Fellowship Positions
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University is seeking to fill multiple Faculty Fellow positions, starting in Fall 2024. The Faculty Fellowship Program aims to attract and support young scholars and educators from diverse backgrounds, and with research interests and expertise that span a wide range of computer science areas. Applicants are required to hold a PhD in Computer Science or related discipline.
The program provides Faculty Fellows with mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities, to prepare them for faculty positions in computer science at top universities. The initial appointment is for one year, beginning in September 2024, and is renewable for a second year.
Faculty Fellows are expected to:
- Produce high-quality computer science research, both independently and in collaboration with a Tandon CSE faculty mentor.
- Co-advise Ph.D. students with their faculty mentors.
- Teach one course per semester, capped at 50 students. Fellows will be placed in courses that have well-developed course materials, or parallel sections with a faculty instructor who will offer support. Optionally, Fellows may develop their own graduate-level selected topics courses.
- Participate in grant writing, and serve as Co-PIs on successful grants.
- Participate in professional advancement events and NYU campus life.
Fellowship program benefits include:
- A $100,000 ten-month salary ($10,000 per month), subject to tax withholding. Faculty fellows may have the opportunity to earn summer salary for an additional 2 months per year, via research grants, for a total annual salary of up to $120,000.
- A $15,000 annual housing allowance.
- A $5,000 annual research allowance to support conference travel, publication fees, and other research-related expenses.
- A benefits package, including medical and dental coverage.
- Single-occupancy office space at NYU’s 370 Jay St. in Brooklyn, NY.
- Networking and professional development events. Support in the faculty job search process during the final year of the program.
Visiting Professor
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, Visiting Professor position in Computer Science, at the level of Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2024. The position will be for one academic year.
Qualifications:
You should have a Ph.D. degree in computer science or a closely related discipline. We seek individuals with evidence of excellent scholarship and teaching ability, and with an interest in collaborating on research with our current faculty. The visiting faculty member is expected to contribute to both research and teaching in the department. The teaching load will be a maximum of 3 courses for the year.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000–$140,000 for the Assistant Professor rank and $100,000–$160,000 for the Visiting Associate Professor rank. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
NYU Shanghai CS Positions: Tenured/Tenure-Track Position in Computer Science/Data Science/Engineering

NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for multiple Tenured or Tenure-Track positions in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Data Science. The search is not restricted to any rank and outstanding candidates at all levels are encouraged to apply.
Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions with respect to research start-up funds and compensation, and they include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may in certain cases have the opportunity to spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU Global Network, engaging in both research and teaching.
Qualifications
We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a closely related discipline. We invite applications from candidates in all areas and have a special interest in those with expertise broadly in Systems, Computer Engineering, Trustworthy AI, Mathematics of Data Science and AI, and Human-Computer Interaction that will supplement and complement our current interdisciplinary clusters in machine learning, theory and AI.
