Find Funding
NYU Tandon School of Engineering is proud to support its research community in identifying, pursuing, and stewarding project sponsorship from extramural partners. For more information about creating and submitting proposals for sponsored research, please visit Proposal Preparation
We regularly send an email newsletter to all faculty with links to funding opportunities that fit in with our faculty’s research interests. Please let us know if you are interested in preparing a response to one of these solicitations. View the Current Opportunity Newsletter (NYU login required).
Limited Submissions
Limited submission proposals are funding opportunities in which the sponsor restricts the number of applications that may be submitted from NYU. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research centrally manages limited submission proposals.
In cases of limited submission solicitations, NYU will have an internal competition to select the most competitive candidate(s) to submit a proposal. For each limited submission opportunity, an email notification is sent to the appropriate Dean(s) with specific directions for the submission of nominations and pre-proposals.
If you plan to submit a proposal for consideration, your proposal submission MUST be coordinated with the department chair and/or the research Dean for submission to the Office of the Provost. This process is critical as extra submissions can result in all submissions being denied.

GrantForward
GrantForward is a search database with external funding opportunities from over 13,000 sponsor sources, including federal, private, corporations, and professional organizations. Anyone with an @nyu.edu email address can create a profile to identify relevant funding opportunities.
Tips for Better Search Results on GrantForward
- If you are a researcher, create a research profile using your CV or publication sources such as PubMed or Google Scholars. Then, deselect the keywords for research topics that may be outdated or irrelevant. Select “weekly” for email distributions. The goal is to get lists relevant to your research interests, so this will save you from having to spend time reviewing large lists of funding opportunities.
- If you are a research administrator looking to distribute funding opportunities more efficiently, please contact research.development@nyu.edu for a demo or training session to learn more about GrantForward’s capabilities.

Industry Opportunities
Bridging Academic Excellence and Industrial Innovation
Partnering with industry offers faculty unique opportunities to apply research to real-world problems, access proprietary datasets, and secure diverse funding streams.
Understanding the Industry Landscape
Unlike federal agencies, industry partners prioritize Market Impact, Intellectual Property (IP), and Timeline. Funding typically falls into two categories:
Sponsored Research: Funding for specific research projects that target defined outcomes. Tailored project agreements, and pre-arranged IP framework.
Gift Funding: Unrestricted funds for general laboratory support (often with fewer reporting requirements).

Foundation Opportunities
- Numerous non-for profit foundations exist domestically and internationally that provide grant funding to research aligned with their specific interests.
- The Health Research Alliance is a consortium of over 50 different foundations that collectively sponsor over $1.5 Billion dollars in research annually. Each foundation within the group has their own funding mechanisms, many of which are open to postdoctoral submissions. For more information about funding opportunities, join the HRA’s listserv.
- Foundation Directory Online is a database of over 100,000 public and private foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities in the U.S. It provides comprehensive information on grant-makers and their grants.
