Reprint Bot (GY)

  • Prototyping a standalone system that recycles used plastic bottles in order to use the material for 3D printing purposes

6 step process of how a plastic bottle is turned in to filament that is used in a 3D printer

VIP RePrint Bot is an undergraduate team competing in the ASME Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D (IAM3D) Challenge, which focuses on pushing the limits of 3D printing in aerospace applications. The team designs, fabricates, and optimizes drones using advanced additive manufacturing techniques, emphasizing lightweight structures, aerodynamics, and material efficiency.

Students gain hands-on experience in the full design and testing process, including CAD modeling in SolidWorks, structural analysis using FEA, and flight performance evaluation. Each competition cycle presents a new design challenge, requiring students to develop innovative solutions for specific mission objectives and payloads.

Beyond competition, the team engages in STEM outreach and research, exploring new frontiers in additive manufacturing and drone technology while preparing students for careers in aerospace, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.
